In 2008 the Salinas Public Library received almost 500,000 visits. Today with the support of our citizens, and funding by Measure V, residents, and visitors alike, can be inspired and explore books, music, film, technology, art, language and culture.

With individual and family reading programs in the Literacy Center at the John Steinbeck Library, a Homework Center known as the "Be Creative Room" at the Cesar Chavez Library, tutors available, computers, and GED classes at CHISPA housing and other community sites, as well as free learning materials, we are creating a “Culture of Literacy” for every resident to enjoy.

Through the "Cards to All Students" program 32,648 Salinas students now have a library card as of June 2009.
