The East Salinas business community has long needed its own organization to support and promote businesses in its thriving commercial corridors of East Market Street, East Alisal Street, and Sanborn Road. With support from the Redevelopment Agency, a new business group - SUBA - has established itself and is already making a positive impact for the community. Similar to the Oldtown Salinas Association in the downtown, it is expected that SUBA will eventually have financial support from a business improvement district with additional grant funding from the Agency.
Jazz-Up Program
This program offers minor repair and exterior painting services, at no cost for labor, to commercial and residential properties that qualify.
Streetscape Program
This beautification program is designed to address the construction of a streetscape theme that will provide a suitable public setting for private investment and development including landscaping, lighting, street furniture, and the under grounding of utility lines in the retail and commercial areas of East Salinas. The East Alisal Street commercial corridor was completed some years ago under this program in conjunction with PG&E utility undergrounding, while a similar project is currently in the planning stages for East Market Street, a project to start construction in 2009.
