Zero Tolerance for Illegal Fireworks!

The Salinas Fire Department and the Salinas Police Department are teaming up to combat the possession, use, and sale of illegal and dangerous fireworks in the City of Salinas. Special enforcement teams will be deployed on the July 4th holiday to patrol city streets and take action against those who violate the law with these dangerous items. Administrative fines starting at $1250 will be levied against any person discovered with these fireworks in violation of Salinas City Code Chapter 13A.

Unfortunately this is a trend that the City of Salinas is also experiencing and Salinas Animal Services reminds pet owners that they have humane options and legal responsibilities when they are no longer able to care for their pets due to economic difficulties or foreclosures.

Salinas Fire Department selects Fireworks Sales Non-profits

The Salinas Fire Department will conduct a raffle to award Fireworks Sales to local non-profits.

The raffle will occur on May 10th at 10:00 a.m. The raffle will occur at the Rotunda, 200 Lincoln Avenue. Winners will be announced at the Mayor’s Press conference at 10:30. a.m. on May 10th in the Rotunda.

The City of Salinas began selling Safe and Sane fireworks in 2009. The deadline to apply for the Fireworks Sales program was March 31st. Good Luck!

Salinas Mayor Dennis Donohue will be holding his regular press conference on Monday, March 8, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. on the front steps by the marquee Salinas High School, 726 South Main Street.

Following his press update, Mayor Donohue will be joined by Assistant Principal John Macias and Mary Margaret Garcia, Fundraising Chair, who will share their theatre group’s plans to participate in the Fringe Festival in Scotland.


The Salinas Police Department Targets Impaired Drivers with Checkpoint

The Salinas Police Department will be conducting a DUI/Drivers License checkpoint on Thursday, March 4, 2010 in the evening hours The checkpoint will be conducted at an undisclosed location within the city limits. In an effort to reduce the number of persons killed and injured in alcohol involved crashes, DUI checkpoints are conducted to identify offenders and get them off the street, as well as educate the public on the dangers of impaired driving.


Grand Opening of Jet West
A New Salinas Airport Business from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, March, 5, 2010

Jet West has made a significant investment in the Salinas Airport turning an older airport building into a “state of the art” corporate aircraft facility. Jet West, formerly located in Reno Nevada, will provide full aviation services including aircraft fueling and aircraft charter.

Dennis Donahue, Salinas Mayor stated, “Jet West is a welcome addition to our airport and our City, we look forward to a long term mutually beneficial relationship.”
