Facilities
Maintenance
The Facilities
Maintenance Division of the Public Works Department is responsible
for maintaining City owned Buildings, Facilities and City owned
street lights through preventive maintenance and repairs to ensure
clean, safe, sanitary, and well operating facilities for the public.
In addition to these tasks the maintenance group is also responsible
for graffiti abatement (the removal and/or painting over of graffiti)
and Parks Construction/Maintenance.
The tasks performed
by the Facilities Division are varied and challenging. Among some
of the responsibilities are the maintenance of public building such
as libraries, recreation centers, fire stations and the police department.
Not only does the Facilities Maintenance Division perform structural
repairs such as roof repairs, plumbing repairs, electrical repairs,
etc., but is also responsible for the custodial maintenance of the
public facilities.
There is also
one group within the Division that is responsible for setup and
preparation for events and meetings held at the Community Center.
This group faces a special challenge as the users of the Community
Center range from the Monterey County Symphony to small groups of
10 holding a meeting, all of which have unique requirements.
Recently the
Facilities Division has taken on the responsibility of Parks Construction/Maintenance.
This involves duties such as the repair of park irrigation systems,
installation of new park irrigation systems and the inspection,
repair, removal and installation of park playground equipment. In
addition to these tasks the Facilities Division is also responsible
for the maintenance and repair of over 1,000 street lights and parking
lots lights at city facilities.
