STATION
THREE
827 Abbott Street
Built in 1957

Station
3 is located on the south edge of the city with its large
agricultural processing and industrial plant base. The most
distinguishing feature is the 4 -story training tower behind
the station.

Station
3 is the department's training station. It includes
a four story training tower. The tower was built
in 1963 and is still a focal point for daily training. |

|
The
bell in front of Station 3 was the original
department bell used to call firefighters to respond
from July 1900 to December 1923. |

Training
Every
firefighter starts their career at Station 3. Below are some
pictures from our Academy in 2003. We will be starting our new
2005 Academy later this fall.

The tower is
smoked up during a drill to simulate actual conditions.
The
ability to see is greatly impaired in a fire. Firefighters must
learn to crawl through a building in search of the fire and any
victims that might be still in the building.
Search
and Rescue
Here firefighters search a room for victims with their facepieces
blacked out to work in complete darkness. In this simulation a
firefighter is down and they will need to lower him out of the
second floor window and down a ladder. This constant testing builds
confidence and skill to work under harshest conditions in zero
visibility

At the
end of the scenario the firefighter is rescued and glad to be
back on solid ground.
