STATION ONE
216 West Alisal
Built in 1982

The Salinas Fire Department's Main Station responds to over 3500 calls per year. Station 1 is home to our Quint, Engine (E5311), Paramedic Rescue, (R5361), our 100' Ladder Truck, (5371), Haz-Mat Rig, (HZ5360), Reserve Engine (E5321) and various staff vehicles. Our mechanics are also based at station 1. We have a full maintenance division that performs all mechanical work on our equipment with on-line Firefighter/Mechanics. The members of the Haz-Mat team are also stationed here as well as the Battalion Chief. Station 1 is the largest station in Salinas and is also the only Salinas station to have fire poles the firefighters slide down on as they respond to calls. Station 1 covers the Downtown area and much of South Salinas.

 Engine 5311

Station 1 is home to Engine 5311 which is a Quint equipped with a 75 foot ladder, in addition to a water tank, pump, hose and full compliment of ground ladders. The term quint comes from the phrase quintuple fire apparatus, meaning a piece of apparatus that has five major features or functions. This apparatus also has the ability to deploy an elevated master stream at 1250 GPM.

Tours

A school class takes a tour of Station 1, a very popular station for tours. In this photo a firefighter shows a group of school children the protective equipment he wears into a fire. To schedule a group tour call the office at Fire Administration at 758-7265

Ladder training at Station 1.

The 1978 Ward LaFrance has a 100 foot ladder with enough reach to go to the roof of a seven story building which is the height of the tallest buildings in Salinas. All probationary firefighters are tested by climbing to the top of the ladder when it is fully extended, then clipping in with a ladder belt, and letting go with your arms.
