DEVELOPMENT AND ENGINEERING SERVICES

The Development and Engineering Services Department provides building plan checking, building inspection and permit issuance for construction of new and remodeling of residential and commercial buildings as well as engineering of traffic and public facilities.

The Department includes:

Advance Planning - Develop the City of Salinas General Plan and land use guidelines.

Development and Traffic Engineering - Assure the safe and efficient movement of people and goods throughout the community

Engineering - Engineering and project management services for the planning, design and construction of public facilities.

Community Planning and Development - Community Planning and Development oversees the development of private land within the City, administers the Zoning Code and precesses development applications.

Permit and Inspection Services - City and Code requirements are provided for various projects.

The Development and Engineering Services Department administers the City's code enforcement program for substandard housing, zoning code violations, and dangerous building complaints. Inspection services are provided for new subdivisions and public improvements on private property.

The Department issues building records reports for the sale of residential property and permits for street vendors, banners and encroachment into the public right-of-way.
