Salinas Police Department Community Academy
August 5, 2008
The Salinas Police Department will be presenting a Community Police Academy this summer. The Community Academy will begin on Tuesday, September 16th and run from 6:00PM to 9:00 PM for 12 consecutive weeks, except during the week of Thanksgiving. The Community Police Academy graduation will be on December 9th.

The Community Academy will take participants on a ride-along with a patrol officer, show them what a SWAT team does, let them experience simulated high risk traffic stop training, provide a demonstration of the K9 program, and much, much more.

Each night features a new topic, with speakers, demonstrations, discussions and field trips. We will answer questions and give an in-depth, behind the scenes look at police operations. Past participants enjoyed the course so much; they didn’t want it to end!

To attend the Community Academy obtain an application and submit it to the Salinas Police Department, Community Services Unit by September 9th. Applicants must be at least 18 years old, a resident of Monterey County, be employed in Salinas or involved in a community-based organization that provides services to Salinas residents.

Class size is limited, so prospective applicants should not wait to submit an application. To apply, download an application from the Salinas Police Department web site. Applications can also be picked up at the Salinas Police Department Front Desk. Prospective applicants may also contact Sergeant Jay Malispina at 758-7247 for an application or more information.
