MISCELLANEOUS NON-MANAGEMENT EMPLOYEES (SMEA)
SALARY
STEPS: Appointments are normally made at the first step. Consideration is given for increase to the
second step after successful completion of a six-month probationary
period. (Employees appointed at a
higher step will be eligible for consideration for the next step after one
year, providing they successfully complete a six-month probationary period.)
PRE-PLACEMENT
PHYSICAL EXAM & DRUG AND ALCOHOL TESTING POLICY: Candidates offered employment must pass a
pre-placement medical exam, which includes a drug and alcohol screening test,
prior to final appointment. Hiring
decisions may be based upon results of pre-placement medical exam and drug and
alcohol screening. Positive samples are
retained for 90 days from date of notification. Applicants with a positive result must notify the City, in
writing, prior to the expiration of the 90 days to request retention beyond the
90 day period. A copy of the City’s
Drug and Alcohol Testing Policy is available upon request.
BENEFITS
BIENNIAL PHYSICAL: City-paid Biennial Physical
exam every 24 months. Employees 40
& over eligible every 18 months.
ANNUAL LEAVE: Accrued at a rate of 22 days
through 5 years; 27 days through 10 years; with additional longevity increases.
HOLIDAYS: Thirteen days per year.
FLEXIBLE COMPENSATION BENEFIT: A Flexible
Benefit equal to 5% of the employee’s annual base salary may be used toward
employee health contribution, supplemental life insurance, deferred
compensation leave time or cash.
HEALTH INSURANCE: The City pays 100% for CalPERS Choice Health plan, Delta Dental and medical Eye Services for
employee and eligible dependents. Other
PERS Health coverage may be available depending upon your residence. The City will only provide the premium
amount equal to the CalPERS Choice.
RETIREMENT: Public Employees Retirement System
2% at 55. Employee pays 7% contribution
in addition to Social Security/Medicare contributions.
LONG-TERM DISABILITY: Private
long-term disability plan for job related and non-job related disability.
LIFE INSURANCE: City-paid life insurance
policy of $50,000.
UNIFORM ALLOWANCE: Work clothing or clothing
allowance or footwear allowance provided for employees required to wear a
uniform; or in certain classifications.
DEFERRED COMPENSATION: Employee
may elect to enroll in a plan.
BILINGUAL PAY: 5% of base salary for
employees holding designated positions and who qualify through testing
procedures.
DIFFERENTIAL PAY: Split shift differential
for Library Employees - 5% for days on which the employee’s shift is split.
PREMIUM PAY:
Classifications that require certification may be eligible for up to 5%
additional pay for certifications held not required for the job.
PHYSICAL FITNESS/WELLNESS PROGRAM: City will
provide 50% reimbursement to employees for actual costs of participation in
health club memberships for employee only, not exceed $500 per calendar year,
per employee or an annual fitness incentive for qualifying employees.
