EL Gabilan Library - Closed May 1-31, 2008
April 24, 2008
The El Gabilan Branch of the Salinas Public Library will be closed May 1 through May 31, 2008 for public restroom remodeling. The restrooms will be upgraded to meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards. The library is located at 1400 N. Main St.

The remodeling project is funded by Measure V and allows Salinas Public Library to meet another of its service goals targeted for fiscal year 2007-2008. For additional information, call 758-7311

The other two Salinas Public Library facilities will be open during the month of May and the community is encouraged to visit them:

Cesar Chavez Library, 615 Williams Rd
John Steinbeck Library, 350 Lincoln Ave.

Hours of operation:
11:00 am – 7:00 pm, Tue-Thu
11:00 am – 6:00 pm, Fri
10:00 am – 6:00 pm, Sat

El Gabilan Library will re-open to the public on June 3rd.


Salinas PD Community Police Academy
April 21, 2008
The SPD Community Police Academy will start on Monday, June 2nd at 6:00pm in the SPD Briefing Room. The Academy will be held each Monday night for 12 weeks, with graduation on August 18th. The Community Police Academy will provide participants with an in-dept look at Salinas Police Department operations. Participants will go on a police ride along, learn about law of arrest, search and seizure, Canine operations, the hiring process and training process of new officers and more.

Those wishing to participate must be at least 18 years old and be willing to sign a waiver for a criminal history check as part of the application process. Applications can be downloaded at the salinaspd.com or picked up the SPD Front Lobby. Applications should be forwarded to Sergeant Jay Malispina, Community Services Unit and must be recevied by Wednesday, May 21st. Class size is limited to 30 participants. Storm Water Management Plan Revision
April 8, 2008
The City of Salinas has further revised its Storm Water Management Plan (SWMP) to conform to the revisions described in the Central Coast Regional Water Quality Control Board's February 8, 2008 resolution approving the SWMP.  This revised SWMP was submitted to Regional Board staff on April 8, 2008.  Click here to review the revised SWMP.
